Clyde's newest retirement village has made an impact on community groups — before it has even broken ground.

Aurum on Clutha gave two 12-seater LDV vans to the Alexandra and Clyde Bowling Clubs last Friday to build club ties for future residents.

Developer and director Pat Houlahan said although most retirement villages incorporated a bowling green into the design of their facilities, Aurum on Clutha had decided not to.

"We decided instead of having one in the village we’d support the two local bowling clubs and provide the vans to the clubs for transport," he said.

It was a "win-win" for everyone, Clyde Bowling Club president Alister Watson said.

"It’s just awesome for a club to get this sort of support from anyone," he added.

The Alexandra Bowling Club president, John Lochhead, said that the club was "indebted" to the the retirement village.

Work on Aurum on Clutha, a $90million development of situated between State Highway 8 and  Muttontown Rd, near Clyde is scheduled to begin in May.
