Board rejects options

Give us back the power to make decisions on our water services.

That was the message this week from the Cromwell Community Board to the Central Otago District Council.

Board chairman Neil Gillespie said the board did not support either option for funding outlined in the long-term plan.

''We're recommending the status quo should remain, with each area paying their own costs.''

The board has also recommended the council rescind a resolution which took decision-making on water service infrastructure away from the community boards and gave the power to the council's infrastructure committee.

Community boards had to relinquish their delegated authority on water services following the council decision in July 2013.

Until then, boards made all the decisions on water services in their respective areas, including how drinking water and wastewater upgrades were to be funded.
