Cause of man’s injuries in Hyde unclear

A man was taken to Ranfurly Hospital with minor injuries following an incident in the main street of Hyde last week.

But there are conflicting reports about whether his injuries were caused by a fist fight with another man, or he was  drunk and fell  and hit his head.

A St John spokeswoman said an ambulance attended the incident in Eton St (State Highway 87) about 10.40pm on January 2, but because of privacy rules, she could not give some information about the incident.

"I can tell you it wasn’t a car accident. It also wasn’t a medical event. I’m just going to call it an incident.

"We transported one male patient in a minor condition to Ranfurly Hospital."

She said the incident was referred to police.

Senior Constable Helen Fincham-Putter, of Middlemarch, said she attended an incident  where it  appeared  a man who had had too much to drink fell over and hit his head.

However, a police  spokeswoman said the incident was logged as "a dispute". No charges had been laid and inquiries were continuing.
