Cromwell businesses with an interest in weddings have a new website on which to advertise, thanks to the ingenuity of Cromwell photographer Janyne Harman.

The CentralCelebration.co.nz website is a co-operative venture where providers of wedding products and services are working together to harness their collective marketing strength.

The site brings together all the facets of wedding plans, from cakes and photography to accommodation, food, flowers, beauty products and music.

It capitalises on Central Otago's rapidly growing reputation as a tourist destination.

The region was special in terms of its distinctive environment and atmosphere for all types of weddings and celebrations, project manager Janyne Harman said.

The website first went live at the beginning of August.

"We have been tinkering with and getting more people on board since then and now we have 17 businesses using the site."

Much of her work as a wedding photographer came from overseas, she said.

"This is the ideal way for people from around the world who want a traditional Kiwi wedding to organise it from their home before they even arrive in New Zealand."

Cental Otago Mayor Malcolm Macpherson agreed.

His son was getting married in the United States and the bridesmaids were travelling from all over the world.

They were all shopping for the same things online, he said.

Dr Macpherson told the crowd gathered to celebrate the opening of the website at Cromwell's Golden gate Lodge recently that sites that drew people to Central Otago were good for the district.
