A 63-year-old Alexandra man has been airlifted to Dunedin hospital this afternoon, after his truck travelled about 50 metres down a steep hillside near Alexandra.

Senior Constable John Clark said the man received "reasonable'' injuries, after his vehicle left Little Valley Rd.

Police, fire and St John's Ambulance staff attended the single vehicle accident near the Alexandra clock on the hill at about 2pm.

The winch of a tow truck was used to secure the truck to stop it from moving further, so the trapped man, the sole occupant, could be freed.
