Organisers of a family-friendly run to mark the end of Movember hopes the event kickstarts people into taking care of their physical or mental health.

The Mo-Mentum Run will be held at the Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell on November 30.

Organiser Tom Heath said the 5km or 10km family fun run would raise money for the charity Movember, with 100% of entry fees going to the charity.

Mr Heath launched the event as a catalyst to kickstart people into taking action, whether for their physical or mental health.

If the event encouraged someone to start a new fitness journey or, however big or small, triggers positive action towards improved mental health, the event would be a huge success he said.

"At the very least, each person who enters will be raising money and building awareness for this awesome charity."

As the run was not focused on performance there would be a medal for every finisher, as well as epic spot prizes for best moustache, highest fundraiser and best fancy dress.

There were also plans for a special spot prize for emergency services.

"I’m a volunteer firefighter at Clyde so it’ll be great to get other services involved and ensuring their health is a key focus when it can take a step back with an increasingly busy and stressful role."

As the event is due to be held on the last day of Movember, at the end of a run there would be a shave station so people could choose to end the event or the month by shaving their moustaches and beards off.

Organisers have spoken with barbers in the area to offer their professional services to shave if people wanted to use it to raise more money, Mr Heath said. — Allied Media
