The family of a tiny tot with strong links to the district will benefit from this year's Teviot Valley Garage Sale Trail on Saturday.

Event organiser Shirley Marsden said 33 people in the valley had registered to host garage sales between 10am and 4pm on Saturday and potential customers could buy a trail map for $3.

The proceeds from the maps and any donations made on the day will go to the family of 20-month-old Hunter Moore, of Bulli, New South Wales.

Hunter was born with a congenital heart disease and has had two rounds of heart surgery so far.

His parents are Hayden Moore and Kylene Barbara, who used to live in Roxburgh, and his grandparents are Garry Moore and Piki Hawkins, of Roxburgh. Hunter's grandmother, Ms Hawkins, said her ‘‘very active'' grandson recently had another round of heart surgery and was doing well.

His parents were ‘‘tag-teaming'', working and caring for Hunter, as he was unable to go to day care.

‘‘He's a happy, smiling wee boy and he's very busy, always active. His parents don't want to wrap him up in cotton wool,'' she said.

Mrs Marsden said this was the third annual giant garage sale trail. Many local people knew Hunter's family and it was hoped to ease the financial burden on the family a little through donations and proceeds from the trail maps.

Those who have registered to take part in the sale had all kinds of household goods on offer and, of course, they would keep the money they raised through selling those goods, she said.

‘‘There's everything from furniture to old sports equipment; all sorts of things.''

The garage sale locations would be marked on the day with balloons.

Mrs Marsden started the event two years ago.

‘‘I just thought it would nice to have something like this in Roxburgh, to add a bit of interest. Lots of people enjoy garage sales so this way they can go to a whole heaps of garage sales all on one day.''
