Ideas for pool wanted

Ideas for the future of the Clyde Pool site will be aired at a public meeting next week.

The pool was closed in 2010 because it was going to cost $700,000 to get it up to standard, including repairs and a new filtration plant.

Repaying a loan for that amount, plus pool operating expenses, would cost every Clyde ratepayer $122 a year, for the next 15 years, residents were told at a public meeting in April this year.

After consulting with the community, the Vincent Community Board voted to keep the pool closed, as it would cost ratepayers too much to open it again.

A meeting in April on the future of the pool was attended by 14 residents, who agreed the facility was too expensive to maintain and run, when the cost was shared by only 817 ratepayers.

Board chairwoman Clair Higginson is hoping for a good turnout at the public meeting in the Clyde Hall on Monday at 7pm to hear the community's ideas for the site.
