Darryn Drake was made a member of the order for his dedication to St John’s mission and the development of youth.
Mr Drake said being made a member was a recognition of his work, he said he did not want to gloat, so he read an excerpt from his 300-word nomination.
"Darryn has been the divisional manager at [the] Alexandra division for over 10 years.
"His unwavering commitment, leadership, and mentorship have had a good, profound impact on the division and the broader community.
"His dedication to our organisation's mission and the development of youth is truly commendable.
"His contributions will continue to inspire and empower others for the years to come."
Mr Drake has been a member of St John since he was 8 years old.
He joined as a cadet, after his mother who was a nurse decided to to put Mr Drake into something different than the Scouts which his relatives were in.
After finishing the programme he decided to take a break from the organisation in his mid-twenties.
He would later rejoin after taking one of his children to show them what he used to do when he was younger and was told that St John were looking for leaders.
Now aged 48, he has been a part of the organisation for 25 years as an adult.
Mr Drake said he was humbled upon being made a member.
"Even when I was being congratulated, I said, ‘hey, look, it's not all me. I've got people around me’," he said.
Mr Drake hoped to continue the work he had been doing, running the Wednesday cadet nights in Alexandra.
"It's about seeing the potential in the kids and letting them unlock that potential, really," he said
