Many Cromwell households were without power after a major outage this evening.
A concerned resident contacted the Otago Daily Times, and an after hours operator for Aurora Energy confirmed, shortly before 9.30pm, that a "major outage" had occurred, from about 7.20pm.
It had taken them a while to find the cable that had blown, she said. The cable had been located and it was expected that power would soon be restored, she said.
Further details about the outage and its effects were not immediately available.
A statement from Aurora Energy on the You Know You are From Cromwell Facebook page apologised for the inconvenience the outage was causing.
"Our faultmen are on site and are working as safe as quickly possible to restore power.
"We expect power to be restored by 10.00pm and will be updating social media and our website," the spokeswoman said.
