Man still on life support after van fall

An Alexandra man remained in a serious condition on life support in Dunedin Hospital last night after a fall from a van travelling about 100kmh on Saturday night.

He was named by police yesterday as Andrew James Sinclair (25).

Sergeant Derek Ealson said the inspection of the van and the Cromwell Gorge site where the fall happened was completed yesterday by a serious crash analyst.

Police still had several independent witnesses to interview about the incident, but the investigation was progressing well and police had a clearer picture of what had happened, he said.

Victim Support volunteers and police were working to support Mr Sinclair's family and friends, and the other occupants of the van that evening had also been offered support and counselling.

Sgt Ealson would not speculate on whether any charges would be laid, saying police ''would look at the matter in its entirety'' after the investigation was completed.

Mr Sinclair received serious head injuries in the fall, which happened on State Highway 8 between Clyde and Cromwell.
