A 51-year-old Invercargill woman was taken to Dunstan Hospital with a broken right shoulder, broken ribs and a punctured lung after her motorcycle flipped during an overtaking manouevre on State Highway 6, between Albert Town and Hawea Flat, on Saturday afternoon.
Constable Pete Reed said police would like to hear from the driver of a green Toyota Corolla car, who might not have been aware of the accident.
The car did not stop at the accident scene, on the corner of State Highway 6 and Camphill Rd.
"The car was turning right [into Camphill Rd] and the motorcycle was overtaking it at the time," Const Reed said.
It appeared the motorcyclist had braked, causing her bike to slide and flip.
Investigations were continuing, Const Reed said.
"It was lucky she just received injuries. It could've been a lot worse. We don't believe any excessive speed was involved."
The accident happened during the Five Lakes Poker Run to raise funds for St John.
