This week the Vincent Community Board agreed not to accept other interest in 4.2ha of land the Central Otago District Council owns in the north of the town before December 1.
This would give the Leaning Rock Village Society more time to negotiate the purchase of Crown land next to the council block with Ngai Tahu. The retirement village plans require both pieces of land.
It was given a year-long extension in June last year, which ended last Sunday. Community board member Brian Fitzgerald said it was "not too much of an issue" to grant such extensions.
Council property and facilities manager Mike Kerr said the development seemed to be progressing as Leaning Rock was recently inquiring about the price of the land.
In March Leaning Rock chairman Russell Checketts said it was "frustrating" the process had taken so long.
The proposal is for a not-for-profit lifestyle village of two- and three-bedroom villas, one-bedroom apartments and a residential care facility.
