Police have yet to interview the husband of the Roxburgh woman who died on Friday after a shooting incident at their home.

The officer in charge of the homicide investigation into Lesley Johnston's death, Detective Sergeant Derek Shaw, said police were aware the man had serious injuries and "it hasn't been within our investigation plan to speak with him yet.

We're conscious that he needs to have time to work on his recovery."

The 66-year-old man, who has not been named by police, was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital on Friday with gunshot injuries.

Last night, he was still in a serious condition in Dunedin Hospital, but was no longer in the intensive-care unit.

The majority of the scene search at the Smith St house was completed last night and police were continuing to interview people about the incident, Det Sgt Shaw said.

"As you speak to one person in the inquiry that can generate more things that you need to look into, so it's an ongoing process."

Several members of the public had come forward with "other different snippets of information" that were also being investigated, he said.

"Nothing has shifted the investigation from the direction it was travelling. There's a clearer picture emerging of what happened that night although we have not completed our inquiries yet."

Det Sgt Shaw declined to elaborate on what that direction was, or any further details of the shooting incident.
