A steady stream of visitors to Roxburgh yesterday made the most of the chance to drool over hundreds of classic cars on display or view equally well-polished exhibits in the town's arts festival.

The Classic Car Show, organised by the Roxburgh Rotary Club, was now in its fifth year and continued to grow, organiser Dennis Kirkpatrick said.

More than 150 vehicles were on display and hundreds of people converged on the Roxburgh Area School grounds to inspect the wide range of automobiles.

"It's growing and growing and there's cars here from all over the South Island, " Mr Kirkpatrick said.

The event is a major fundraiser for the Rotary club and the proceeds this year will be used on the walkways around the town, with seats to be placed at scenic spots for the benefit of locals and visitors, he said.

The Roxburgh Artz Festival, held every second year, opened on Thursday night and will finish today at 2pm.

It features the work of more than 200 exhibitors, with paintings, pottery, photography, sculpture and fibre arts among that on display in the Roxburgh Town Hall.
