Tickets are selling at a record rate for April’s Warbirds Over Wanaka show.Several categories have sold out for the Easter Weekend show, which usually sells out a week before the event.

General manager Ed Taylor confirmed the majority of grandstand tickets for the three-day event had been sold.

About 300 general admission tickets were available for Saturday’s show, but plenty were still available for Friday and Sunday, he said.

About 65,000 people usually attend the three-day event.

‘‘We do limit numbers of tickets and unfortunately people get caught out,’’ Mr Taylor said.

One of the world’s most impressive fighter jets has been confirmed for its first visit to the show.

Mr Taylor said having the United States Air Force F-22 Raptor Demo Team perform on all three days of the air show was a real coup.

‘‘This team displays at all the major air shows in the United States and at big military airshows around the world.

‘‘To have them come here says a lot about how well regarded the Wanaka show is globally.

‘‘This is right up there with the biggest acts we’ve ever secured in the 38 years of our event.’’

Two Raptors, worth more than $NZ200million each, would operate out of Christchurch International Airport, he said.
