The intersection of Mutton Town Rd and State Highway 8, south of Clyde, is being changed to a left-turn only after crashes and a Central Otago District Council plan change enabling more development on surrounding land prompted a review.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency consulted on a proposal to fully close the intersection last year, however public feedback received was strongly opposed.
Many submitters supported a left-turn option to MuttonTown Rd from the highway.
Waka Kotahi maintenance contract manager for Central Otago Peter Standring said the work to close one lane, install new signage and mark up the changed road layout will take about 15 working days, weather permitting.
There would be no access from SH8 on to Mutton Town Rd and a detour would be in place via Sunderland and Hospital Sts, he said.
The work would take place from April 10 to May 1 and residents could expect noisy conditions near the work site with some vibration between 7am and 5pm.
"Thanks to all local road users and residents for taking care around this work site for the three or so weeks of work and keeping pets and children safely away," Mr Standring said.
