Trust applicationsto be put online

Community groups and individuals will find it a little easier next year to apply for funds from the Central Lakes Trust.

Chief executive officer Paul Allison told about 60 people attending the eighth annual meeting in Cromwell on Friday that a simplified application document could be available online next year.

The trust wanted to make it as easy as possible for people to apply for funding.

Anyone thinking of making an application should talk to staff in the first instance so they could gain a better understanding of what was required.

"Some people have gone to great lengths in getting all sorts of reports and often those things aren't necessary," he said.

New office premises were also on the agenda and the formation of a youth group umbrella had been welcomed, Mr Allison said.

Chairman Duncan Butcher reported reduced returns on investments this year, mainly due to the world financial markets suffering a drop.

Overall, the trust had made a profit of 3.1% on $153.1 million invested.

Equities investments in New Zealand and overseas had pulled, with a -12.8% return for New Zealand equities and a -7.9% return on overseas equities.

International bonds had performed well with a 9.8% return while New Zealand bonds returned 4.8%, cash 8.7% and New Zealand property investments 10%.
