Two hurt in crash

Two people were airlifted to Dunedin Hospital after a collision between a camper van and station wagon south of Millers Flat yesterday afternoon.

The station wagon, which was travelling north on State Highway 8, was believed to have crossed the centre line ''for whatever reason, yet to be determined,'' Constable Lance Davies, of Roxburgh, said.

The vehicles were travelling in opposite directions but it was not a head-on collision, more a ''glancing blow'', he said.

The occupants of the station wagon were a husband and wife, in their late 50s, from Alexandra, while the camper van occupants were an overseas couple in their 20s, on holiday in New Zealand.

The female driver of the station wagon and the woman who was the front seat passenger in the camper van were airlifted to hospital with ''minor to moderate'' injuries, while their partners were shaken, but uninjured, Const Davies said.

Alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash, which happened on a moderate bend about 6km south of Millers Flat.
