Water use under scrutiny

The Central Otago wards of Cromwell and Vincent are in the orange zone for water restrictions, meaning residents on town water supplies need to reduce their water use.

The areas in the orange zone include Bannockburn, Pisa Moorings and Lowburn, Clyde, Omakau and Ophir.

The Maniototo and Roxburgh areas are still in the green range for water use. The green range indicates residents are encouraged to think about water use.

Mr Bond said water use across the district was expected to increase further over the Christmas period when an influx of visitors placed extra demand on the water supply.

Water use guidelines are broadcast daily on local radio stations and are on the council's website.

• In the Queenstown Lakes district, partial water restrictions will be introduced on the Lake Hayes scheme from tomorrow.
