Invercargill Mayor Nobby Clark is returning to work next week.

Mr Clark is looking forward to getting back into the mayoral chair on Monday.

"I’m feeling good and I’m ready to get back to work", he said.

"It’s been a long road to recovery but I’m well rested and up for the challenges ahead."

Since Mr Clark’s heart attack on December 27 and his subsequent surgery and recovery, the deputy mayor, Tom Campbell, has been in charge.

"Our thoughts have been with Mayor Clark and his family as he’s prioritised his health", Cr Campbell said.

"Now we wish him well and offer our support as he prepares to resume his full duties as mayor next Monday."

Invercargill City Council chief executive Michael Day was relieved Mr Clark had made such a good recovery after a life-changing event.

"We are heartened by Mayor Clark’s enthusiasm to return to his role and welcome him back", Mr Day said.

"The executive team would also like to extend an enormous thank-you to deputy mayor Campbell for taking on mayoral duties for the past two months, as Mayor Clark recovered.

"His time and effort have been greatly appreciated by council staff and the greater community."
