The club’s book sale is known for its huge selection and opening-day rush.
Club president Miles Koberstein said close to 10,000 books had been donated so far.
"The quality and the quantity of the books donated has been amazing" he said.
There are 32 categories in the sale and "all of them have been well covered".
The popular event began over 40 years ago, beginning with sales for two and a-half days, but had now grown to nine days, he said.
Mr Koberstein said preparation took "months of work and the club is very grateful for volunteer Jacquie Webby who has sorted and categorised every one of the thousands of books to be sold".
"We’d be lost without her contribution," he said .
Mr Koberstein also thanked and acknowledged North Otago Motor Group and Alex Campbell Menswear Oamaru for acting as the drop-off depots for books.
Bookarama was the club’s major fundraiser and all proceeds went to the Rotary Trust which made donations to community organisations.
Donation recipients from last year’s sale were Pathfinders Gymnastics, Camp Quality, Oamaru Citizens Advice Bureau, Sending You Happiness Project, Waitaki Neighbourhood Support and Oamaru Steam and Rail.
This year the sale will be held in the Eveline Presbyterian Church hall.
"Finding a venue big enough that is available for the time needed for the setup and sale is getting increasingly difficult and this is the first time Bookarama hasn’t been held in the centre of town, Mr Koberstein said.
"However, the new venue does make parking easier."
The sale opens at 10am today 8 and will run until 1pm on Sunday, May 17.
