A surge in support for the Palmerston and Waihemo A and P show appears to have ensured its future, at least in the short term.
There had been fears the long-standing show would be forced to end because of a lack of committee numbers. But after a large turnout of people at the association's annual meeting, held in Palmerston on Wednesday night, society president Gay Mills of Palmerston said it would continue.
All present office bearers had agreed to continue, and 12 new people had come along to the meeting with ideas they were keen to implement in developing the show and suggestions for major entertainment.
The 2012 show would be held in Palmerston on Saturday, February 4, Mrs Mills said.
Many of those who attended the AGM were in the younger age group, and it was planned to give them the opportunity to develop particular features at the show, she said.
