Boozed mobility scooter driver rescued from ditch

An intoxicated man was stuck in a ditch for about an hour last night after he ‘‘tipped out'' of the mobility scooter he was driving in Oamaru, police said.

The scooter hit a bump on a grass verge about 8pm and the man fell off.

He was unable to get out of the ditch and contacted police on his mobile phone, a police southern communications spokesman said.

Police located the man and assisted him. He did not require medical treatment.

He was not required to undertake an alcohol breath test because he had been driving on the grass verge, the spokesman said.
