Consultation on water management plan this month

A water management programme for the lower Waitaki River and Waimate district is close to being made public so people can have their say before final decisions are made later this year.

The programme is being put together by the Lower Waitaki South Coastal Zone Committee.

Committee member Geoff Keeling said a draft implementation plan should be ready for public consultation later this month and next month.

After considering the feedback from consultation, the committee aimed to approve a final plan on December 15, which would then go to Environment Canterbury and the two district councils early next year for their approval.

The plan will detail how water will be managed, priorities, how they will be achieved, by whom and when. It will be reviewed annually.
