Roualeyn ''Ronnie'' Munro died after a jet-boating accident on the Waitatoto River, near Haast, in March.
The farmer and volunteer firefighter played a huge role in the Otematata and wider Waitaki community and the Faulty Towers Dinner Show would be a community fundraiser to build on his contribution, organiser Brent Cowles said.
''Ronnie was involved in so many projects - most people would never know; he never asked for anything in return,'' Mr Cowles said.
''It was suggested that this might be a good way to raise money and put it back in the community so those projects that Ronnie has worked on can keep going and he can keep on giving.''
More than 1000 people attended Mr Munro's funeral, a reflection of his impact on the small community.
''He always had a smile on his face - always a happy bloke, always cheerful,'' Mr Cowles said.
He played a big role in the development of Otematata's children's playground and the Wetlands Walkway.
The dinner theatre, presented by Doug Kamo Creative Management, will be held at the Otematata Community Hall on August 30. Mr Cowles said he expected it to be a sellout, half of the 140 tickets already having been sold.
It will include a two-course meal and two hours of entertainment, followed by entertainment with a local DJ.
Organisers are hoping the Ronnie Munro Memorial can become an annual community fundraiser, not necessarily in the form of a dinner theatre, and a boost for the town each winter.
Mr Cowles said the Waitaki Valley community was getting right behind it.
The Otematata Volunteer Fire Brigade had offered to man the bar, while the Otematata Lakes Hotel would be providing the food.
