Early start for visitors

Waitaki Lakes camping grounds are opening earlier this year for tourists who may want to visit before and during the Rugby World Cup.

The Waitaki District Council announced yesterday the camps at Lake Middleton and Round Bush (Lake Ohau), Ohau C and Sailor's Cutting (Lake Benmore) and Loch Laird, Wildlife, Otematata Boat Harbour and Parson Rock (Lake Aviemore) will open on Saturday, September 3.

The camps usually open the third week in September.

Council property manager Dougall McIntyre said the camps provided campervan-friendly environments for Rugby World Cup patrons wishing to see more of New Zealand.
