Waitaki District Council property manager Renee Julius said the council would make use of the machinery for repairs to the breakwater at its northern end.
"It is the most cost-effective time to do it while the causeway is in place," she said.
The roughly $130,000 project to rock armour the seaward side of the northern end of the breakwater would be funded by the council’s breakwater protection budgets.
Public access to the breakwater, which was limited during the work, would be reinstated.
