The annual Centrewood Fete, near Waimate, has been postponed from today until next month.
Organisers were not prepared to take a risk with a forecast of torrential rain this weekend.
The fete has gone ahead in wet weather in the past two year and still attracted a good turnout.
But warnings of heavy rain this weekend have prompted a postponement until November 22, a Thursday, which spokeswoman Jo Sutherland said would also provide an opportunity to trial a mid-week date.
Mrs Sutherland said the last two years had been affected by rain, and it was felt it would not be fair on more than 100 stall-holders and the public to take the risk of the fete being disrupted by heavy rain.
