Helpers sought for programme

Volunteers are wanted to help with a January holiday programme in Kurow which last season was popular with people on holiday in the Waitaki Lakes area.

One of the co-ordinators, Carron Cossens, said the three-day programme in January attracted an average of more than 20 children a day, but the next programme might have to be reduced because of a lack of volunteers.

Last January, was the first time the programme had been held since it stopped about 10 years ago.

A meeting is planned for 7.30pm on November 28 at the Kurow Museum to gauge interest in helping run the programme.

If insufficient help was available, the programme might have to be restricted to two days with fewer activities.

Activities last season ranged from a pool party to woodcraft. The programme drew good support from parents.

Children were already asking if it would happen again this season.

"People are looking forward to it but we haven't had many volunteers,"Ms Cossens said.

She hoped for enough volunteers for a three-day programme.
