Waitaki Girls High School principal Lynlee Smith is describing a major building redevelopment at the school this year as an "extreme makeover".
The first stage of the project is a new special needs facility within the senior block, which will hopefully be finished mid-year, while the second is the redevelopment of the science and ICT spaces in the senior block.
That work is expected to take until the end of the year. The project was estimated to cost about $1.9 million.
