Man remanded in custody

A 21-year-old Oamaru man appeared in the Timaru District Court yesterday on six charges related to the aggravated robbery of a Timaru supermarket on January 7.

Detective Sergeant Hannah Booth, of Oamaru, confirmed Tanera Otene was arrested in Oamaru on Monday morning and charged with three counts of kidnapping, two of aggravated robbery and one of assault after the incident at the Countdown supermarket car park in Browne St.

At his first court appearance yesterday, he was remanded in custody until February 12 for a bail hearing.

The hunt for Otene resulted in armed police executing search warrants at two Oamaru properties on January 10.
