The spokeswoman for the recently formed Twizel Community Health Group, Eleanor Harris-Brouwer, announced a public meeting last week in the wake of the termination of GP Tim Gardner's contract at the centre, but over the weekend said it would not now be held.
She said the original aim of the meeting was to work out a plan to get Dr Gardner back to the centre and rejig the centre's governance structure, but because the centre's board would not participate, and Dr Gardner had, in the meantime, gained employment at the Kurow Medical Centre, it would not go ahead.
High Country Health (HCH) chairman Simon Williamson said there was never going to be a public meeting as his organisation was never at liberty to discuss confidential employment issues.
''The board's reaction to the public meeting - they were never of the opinion that they should bow to a small minority of disgruntled people who were unaware of the facts.''
Mrs Harris-Brouwer said her group would now work towards attacking the centre's governance structure - something she believed was too convoluted.
''It has a trust and a board. We're aiming to change the whole structure. The end goal at the moment is to de-establish the board, so, at the moment, we're looking at ways we can do that, so that involves legal implications.''
