Meeting to accentuate the positive, boost business

A meeting to brainstorm ideas for boosting business in Central Otago will be held in Alexandra tonight with "positivity" the focus, says one of the men behind the meeting.

The newly formed Alexandra Clyde and Districts Business Group has called the meeting, which will be held at Centennial Court, starting at 5pm, and Central Otago Mayor Tony Lepper and district councillors have also been invited.

Business group member Steve Toyer said the meeting was open to everyone and the aim was to come up with ideas to create a vibrant business community, so the whole district benefited.

"The whole area is suffering at the moment with the downturn, so we want to brainstorm ideas, or a series of ideas, to improve things, attract shoppers to Central Otago and to look at ways the council can assist in fostering business development."

The group had been in existence for about four months and had 350 members from all over the Central Otago district, he said.

There was no charge to join the group.

"The aim of the meeting is to work together and to be positive about how we're going to change things for the better.

"It's not a place to come along and hammer your own personal grievances."

Alexandra businessman Russell Ibbotson will chair the meeting.
