Further repair work will be undertaken in Moeraki’s Haven St next week to combat roughness created by land movements.

The road will be closed next Tuesday as Waitaki District Council contractors lay a mix of new clay-bound gravel material to improve the road’s surface.

The road will be closed from Tenby St to Haverford St, and sections being repaired include from Davids St and towards Cleddy St.

Waitaki District Council roading manager Mike Harrison said land movements and traffic had created potholes, especially in the slip edges.

‘‘Efforts to maintain the road have been severely affected with the land movement since December. The defects in the road surface require action and this is the first opportunity to address those issues,’’ Mr Harrison said.

A new material mix was being used to improve dust quality and improve the maintenance response to the road’s movements.

‘‘This is essentially levelling works for a smoother ride.’’

It was unlikely there would be further road closures for work on this section, but other parts were routinely monitored for ongoing maintenance, he said.

This was not the first time maintenance work had been undertaken in Haven St.

The council closed the road in 2013 due to ongoing repair costs, but in 2015 the Moeraki community banded together to rebuild a 400m stretch of the road.

The section had since sunk significantly and was breaking up in parts, with potholes throughout.
