Staff and pupils at the 18-pupil Karitane School are worried the speed limit on the road outside the school could be increased from 50kmh to 100kmh.
Relieving principal Anne Wright said she would be "very concerned if the road speed was increased through Karitane".
"At present, our older children can ride to school or walk to school independently. This would not be possible if the speed was an open road limit," Karitane teacher Helen Carter said.
"It would be dangerous and there could be heaps of crashes. People could be run over on the way to school," Karitane pupil Lilly Day (9) said.
