A team of 20 detectives continues to investigate the murder of Czech tourist Dagmar (Dasha) Pytlickova near Waimate, but they still do not know how the 31-year-old came to meet convicted sex offender Jason Frandi.

Police yesterday renewed calls for anyone who saw Frandi's vehicle in the hours leading up to both his and Miss Pytlickova's deaths on May 27.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen Frandi's 1997 silver BMW, registration ATT530.

The head of the investigation, Detective Senior Sergeant Marion Neill, said the focus remained on establishing the movements of Miss Pytlickova and Frandi on the afternoon of Saturday, May 26.

"We are today releasing further photographs of Mr Frandi's car, in the hope that it may prompt people to come forward with information or sightings of the vehicle."

She said the last confirmed sighting of Frandi was at 12.17pm on the Saturday in Waimate, while the last sighting of Miss Pytlickova was between 3pm and 3.10pm near the Cromwell Bridge.

"We are continuing to follow up possible sightings, but we still have gaps in what we know of the movements of both people."

Oamaru police are continuing inquiries in the Waitaki Valley, while Timaru detectives are contacting more than 300 people involved in the Waimate Main School charity trail bike ride. Participants in the bike ride discovered the bodies in a remote forestry block, near Waimate, Det Snr Sgt Neill said.

"We are keen to speak to as many participants as possible so that we have a clear picture of exactly what was seen by the riders that afternoon."
