North and East Otago Attendance Service has announced the winners of its poster competition, whose aim was to help primary school pupils realise the importance of attending school.

The prizes were sponsored by the Waitaki Aquatic Centre, Oamaru Top 10 Holiday Park mini golf, the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony and the Riviera Cinema.

The overall regional winners were St Joseph’s School pupil Phoebe Cogle, 9; Ardgowan School pupil Louie Smith, 10; and Totara School pupil Sylas Tairi, 11.

Attendance adviser Lesley Simpson said they received "amazing" poster entries and the prizegiving was a happy occasion.

"When we delivered the prizes, the students were just so excited. The students in class were all clapping and really excited that someone, not only from their class but school won overall.

"It was so great to see boys participating and especially having two as overall winners. Everyone in the community, schools, parents and whanau all need to work together to support regular attendance." she said.
