Rowing facility on schedule

The Oamaru Rowing Club's new training facility at Lake Ruataniwha should be completed in September, ready for the new season.

The building is a joint venture between the club and South Island Rowing and funding was virtually in place for the $60,000 project, club president Les McCullough said.

The steel-framed building was designed and supplied from Australia and would be erected by Cromwell builder Mike Hedges, a former oarsman at the Oamaru club.

The building will hold 24 boats -12 in each section plus a coaching boat and other rowing equipment.

Half the building will be occupied by the Twizel Rowing Club.

Mr McCullough said Oamaru would still be the club's base, but the new facility would benefit those rowers who aspired to higher levels.
