Three Oamaru men who allegedly kidnapped a man on Friday morning have been remanded to appear in the Oamaru District Court later this month.
Harley James Cunningham (21), Mason Boyd Reid (17), and Douglas James Sinclair (39) appeared briefly before justice of the peace Ashley Broad in the Dunedin District Court yesterday.
Each faced charges of unlawfully detaining their alleged victim, threatening to do grievous bodily harm to him, and of unlawful possession of a shotgun.
They were also charged with being armed with a knife while assaulting their victim with the intent to rob him, and of having a knife in circumstances that showed they wanted to use it to commit an offence involving injury.
Cunningham and Sinclair, both unemployed, were remanded in custody to reappear in the Oamaru District Court on January 19.
Neither man spoke.
Reid, a chef, was also silent and remanded on bail to reappear at the same time.
A fourth male, aged 15 and also of Oamaru, was earlier bailed at Oamaru to appear in the Youth Court at a later date.
Their arrests came after police were called to an incident in Oamaru early on Friday and, from that incident, stopped a vehicle and arrested Sinclair at Pukeuri on Saturday night.
Search warrants were then executed around Oamaru and his co-accused were arrested.
Confirming those details yesterday, Sergeant Tony Woodbridge, of Oamaru, said nobody was hurt.
