Two people escaped serious injury after a two-vehicle T-bone crash at Totara, south of Oamaru yesterday.

Emergency services, including a fire appliance from the Weston Volunteer Fire Brigade, were called to the crash at the intersection of Fortification Rd and Springfield Rd, about 9km southwest of Oamaru, at 10.50am.

Sergeant Blair Wilkinson, of Oamaru, said it appeared a Ford Ranger travelling north on Springfield Rd failed to give way to a late-model Toyota Land Cruiser Prado that was travelling east on Fortification Rd.

The Toyota was unable to avoid the Ford and struck it, he said.

The Toyota suffered significant damage to its front and was towed to Oamaru. A street sign was also taken out.

The Ford suffered minor damage and was moved from the road to a nearby paddock before firefighters cleared the intersection, which remained open, of debris.

St John attended the scene and assessed two patients, the drivers and sole-occupants of each vehicle.

They were not believed to have suffered any injuries. Inquiries are continuing.
