Aeroplane lands in ditch at Qtown

A small aeroplane ended up in a ditch beside the main runway at Queenstown Airport yesterday, but no-one was injured.

Queenstown Airport chief executive officer Steve Sanderson said the unorthodox landing occurred about 11.15am.

There were no passengers in the two-seater Robin aircraft.

Civil Aviation Authority communications manager Bill Sommer said they had been notified about incident and the pilot would file a detailed report.

Mr Sommer had been told the pilot was attempting a "touch and go" landing on the runway but had "somehow" lost control.

"We are interested in finding out what caused the incident - after that there will be no further investigation," he said.
