Australians charged over ski pass scam

Two Australians were arrested at Cardrona Alpine Resort yesterday for allegedly using other people's season lift passes to access skifield runs.

The arrests of the 22-year-old and 18-year-old men for presenting a fraudulent document comes after a weekend when a German man was arrested at the Remarkables for trying to use a falsified ski pass twice in two days.

Snowboarders and skiers have been warned not use falsely obtained skifield lift passes.

Constable Phil Vink, of Wanaka, said the fraudulent use of ski passes was an annual problem.

"It depends on how well the skifields are policing the issue," he said.

The two Australian men are scheduled to appear in the Queenstown District Court on August 24.
