Wakatipu High School's next head boy and girl reckon they have a lot to live up to.

Year 12 pupils Ben Hull (16) and Ashley Burney (17) received the nod last week after a rigorous selection process that consisted of a written application, making a speech to staff and students, undergoing a grilling by a selection panel and a popular vote.

Ben said their predecessors, Victoria Boult and Jacob Flanagan, had been exceptional in their roles ''so living up to them will be a challenge''.

Ashley said she hoped to be a good role model for younger students and to support changes at the school next year, such as the introduction of ''Bring Your Own Device'', the use of personal tablets and laptops for school work and homework.

The pair's duties include running the student council, attending school functions and community events and working with the school's student representative on the board of trustees.

Backing them up will be deputy head girl Kirsty McCorkindale, deputy head boy Yuta Honda and board of trustees representative Luke Petre.
