British Ministry of Sound DJ and CR2 record label owner Mark Brown has joined the national and international line-up of acts for Queenstown's first Peak Festival music event on January 3.

The CR2 chief will bring his record bag and "spin the wheels of steel" as part of his tour of New Zealand and Australia.

Peak Festival events manager Samantha Stirling, of Queenstown, said the DJ was a performer who provided not only a great party, but brought the credibility of an international label owner to the event.

"If you want to know what is rocking the dance world at any given time, speak to Mark Brown."

Auckland funk, drum and bass soulsters Tahuna Breaks are also confirmed on the bill.

They join Queenstown favourites dDub, blues roots combo Kora, pioneering dub act Salmonella Dub and chart-topping British dance duo Utah Saints.

Dunedin dub-style band Six60 will perform its first major gig at the festival.

Theorem, the winning four-piece band of the Edge Battle of the Bands competition in Invercargill, will also play at the Peak, for winning that competition's top prize.

Thousands of revellers of all ages are expected to enjoy the first Peak Festival at the Queenstown Events Centre.

It will run from 1pm to 10pm.

The outdoor main stage will host a mixture of Groove In The Park, dub, down beat styles and conclude with Ministry of Sound DJs Brown and Utah Saints.

The second stage will be an outdoor marquee along the embankment of the field.

The sponsored Debajo Loose Kaboose DJ Tent will be open from 2pm onwards and feature a mixture of about 10 regional DJs playing a large selection of sounds from electronic, house to drum and bass.

Tickets, at $89 per person plus fees, were still available.
