Broncos training in town

One of rugby league's powerhouses, the Brisbane Broncos, arrived in Queenstown this week to train in preparation for the NRL match against the Warriors in Dunedin on Saturday.

The squad that includes the likes of spectator favourites Sam Thaiday, Scott Prince and Justin Hodges rolled into town on Sunday and has been fitting in some sightseeing and adventure activities between training sessions.

While the team has been staying in Queenstown, training has been held at the Queenstown Events Centre in Frankton.

Lakes Leisure events and venues manager J. D. Marrable said Broncos team management had been tight-lipped on most activities.

On Monday morning, the team took part in a recovery session in the pools at the events centre. Later that day, many of them checked out some of the adventure town's activities, although Mr Marrable would not specify if these involved a boat or a bungy cord.

''They were sightseeing, doing the many great adventure activities Queenstown has on offer.''

Yesterday, players took part in a harder training session involving skill sessions, strategies, weights and a game of basketball, according to the team management schedule.

The players took to the field in the afternoon and were likely to have a recovery session again today before a free afternoon and their departure for Dunedin tomorrow.
