Wanaka Community Board chairwoman Rachel Brown was elected to the role unopposed at the board's inaugural meeting yesterday.
New councillor Ella Lawton nominated Ms Brown for the role, seconded by fellow council newcomer Calum McLeod.
There were no other nominations.
Previous board chairman Lyal Cocks nominated re-elected member Bryan Lloyd to return as deputy chairman.
Ross McRobie seconded that motion and Mr Lloyd was re-elected unchallenged.
Ms Brown and Mr McRobie, both first-time board members, had said last month they wanted the chairman's job.
Asked after the meeting if he was disappointed to have missed out, Mr McRobie said he was happy with the outcome.
''I think we're very united in our decision ... there was no requirement for a vote, we were all in favour of Rachel ... we go forward for the community, we've got a good board and I think the most important thing is we're a team.''
Ms Brown said she felt privileged to be chosen chairwoman.
''It's such a dynamic team of talented individuals. I always just really believed in the Wanaka Community Board and was really supportive of it and it's really exciting to be right there with it and really driving a team to represent and advocate for the Wanaka district.''
During the meeting, the board agreed the first ordinary meeting would be held on November 19, in Wanaka, when further consideration would be given to the meeting schedule.
Mr Cocks suggested amending the governance agreement between the board and the council to bring it in line with the Local Government Act.
He recommended changing the purpose of the agreement from promoting the ''social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing of the district'', to ''meeting the current and future needs of communities for good quality local infrastructure, local public services, and performance of regulatory functions in a way that is most cost-effective for households and businesses''.
After discussion, the board agreed to recommend the amendments be adopted by the council.
