Car dealer applies to build new facility

GWD Russell Ltd has applied for resource consent to construct a commercial building and establish a motor vehicle sales showroom and ancillary workshop at Lucas Pl, Frankton.

The publicly notified application said the site was located on the western corner of the Robertson St-Lucas Pl intersection, opposite the Remarkables Park Town Centre.

The proposed building would comprise one main level - the ground floor - and a mezzanine level.

The ground floor would contain the motor vehicle showroom, auto shop, parts-storage, a car wash, an office and covered parking, with the mezzanine level to contain staff amenities, a meeting room and an office, with operating hours from 7.30am to 6pm Monday to Sunday.

"The commercial activity will involve the garaging, storage and the display of motor vehicles for sale," the report said.

"It is anticipated that a total of approximately 50-55 motor vehicles will be displayed for sale from the site.

"This is comparable and not dissimilar to a rental car facility which displays vehicles for hire."

The building would be a maximum of 8.5m high, with a footprint of about 2504sq m.

The application also included land-use consent to breach the District Plan rules relating to building setbacks from zone boundaries, landscaping, land transport facilities, retail sales and signage.

Consent was also sought to breach the transport rules in respect of the location and availability of parking spaces, the sizes of parking spaces, and the length and design of vehicle crossings.

Submissions on the application close on August 10.
