Crowdfund plan works

Best-selling children's author and musician Craig Smith has already sold enough copies of his latest book to cover his investment - well before its official launch next weekend.

The Queenstown resident's book Eating is his first foray into crowdfunding after he asked fans to contribute $15,000 to its design, printing and distribution costs.

Smith says sales to date mean he will have already recouped his own $5000 investment.

Crowdfunding was a ''game changer'' for the publishing industry and he would do it again, he said.

The book will be launched at a family-themed event at Skyline Queenstown on Sunday, October 4.

Running from 10am until noon, it will include performances from Smith, face-painting and discounted luge rides and refreshments.
