Not only will eight Wanaka Medical Centre general practitioners be competing in Sunday's Challenge Wanaka triathlon, several will be on call for medical emergencies as well.

They are (from left) Drs Jo Millis, Linda Garrett, Vicky Jones (on bed), Julian Pettit, Marc Feeney, Dave Allen, Andrew McLeod.

Absent, Dr Reuben Tomlinson.

Practice manager Jan Gillespie said the doctors got involved in the challenge to ''walk the talk'' in respect of the health benefits from exercise.

Ms Gillespie said a pregnant colleague who was not competing would be on duty during the event and another doctor from Dunstan Hospital was available.

As well, race organisers had their own medical team. However, if need be, some of the doctors competing in team events would be available before and after they completed their discipline.
